I am extremely proud to announce the soft launch of the Jennifer McCreath Foundation Inc. This is going to be a non profit organization that will carry out educational, activist, and peer support work for members of the trans communities all over Canada, with a core focus on Newfoundland and Labrador.
Doing activism work requires resources, especially travel costs and meeting accommodations, but I have had such an immense amount of fulfilling feelings from doing this type of work, that I want to create a mechanism that will help me, as well as help others get involved. As a non-profit corporate entity, I can pass fundraising and liability over to a corporate entity, rather than put it all on my shoulders. I look forward to building the company and building a strong brand that can offer meaningful products and services to the trans people who need it most!

McCreath to speak at Middle Cove Pride 2014
On July 14, 2014 at 2 pm, I will be returning to the Town Council office on Logy Bay Rd, to speak at an annual event which I conceptualized in 2011, the Middle Cove Pride Flag Raising. I am honoured that the Board of Directors for St. John's have asked me to speak. I will be talking about trans human rights, trans health care, trans vital statistics policies, and trans success stories.
So excited to be on good terms with St. John's Pride Inc, and org for which I left under rough circumstances in March 2012.

NL Trans* Issues Demonstration and Walk

Members of the trans community and allies are encouraged to bring signs and trans flags to Confederation building, East end parking lot entrance, for this grass roots politically-partisan-neutral, event, designed to raise awareness and to push for change to bring Newfoundland and Labrador up to national and global norms.
Issues:
Vital Statistics policies do not allow NL born trans people to have government ID documents that match who they are unless they have anatomical surgery. This goes against best-practice and was deemed a violation of Human Rights laws in Ontario and Alberta!
Many medical interventions required by trans people are not funded by NL's health provider, unless the patient travels to a particular clinic in Toronto, called CAMH, who are known for long waiting lists and transphobia. No other province who funds trans health, requires a visit to Toronto. This unnecessary red tape must be removed. Allow trans patients to chose local doctors, just like every other province does!
There are many procedures not covered, whatsoever, in NL. Many of these procedures are approved in other provinces. The range of medically-necessary trans health products needs to be comprehensive, like they are in British Columbia. NL's health provider will not fund trans health procedures if performed at private clinics in Canada; however, there are many services not available through public institutes in Canada. Several other provinces have negotiated public-private-partnerships. No reason for NL to send trans people half way around the world to a foreign country!
The Human Rights Act of NL does not have the teeth it needs to help trans people. As per a case rejected in 2012, the Commission states they cannot hear cases of systemic discrimination against oppressed groups of people (such as trans people), but only cases of individual discrimination. This leaves trans people out in the cold. The Act needs to be toughened so the Commission has the tools they need to accurately hear cases of government discrimination against trans people. People attend these suggested events under the assumption and impression that they are attending under their own free will as individual citizens, who are exercising their civic rights to physically attend government properties such as the side walks in front of Confederation Building and the Trail at Kent's Pond. Note: East Coast Trans Alliance is not a legal entity.

Jennifer McCreath Bio: November 2013
McCreath is a woman born transsexual, who is best-known for parlaying her trans status with her athletic legacy as a marathon runner, her political activism, and her flamboyant personality, into public educational and advocacy work regarding issues affecting trans individuals.
McCreath quickly became a public figure in Newfoundland when she made mainstream news, first, for being a transsexual government policy analyst, and then, for being a transsexual policy analyst who suddenly lost what was supposedly a safe and secure job, in 2009. Ever since, McCreath has been on a mission to make this world a more accepting place for members of the trans community. She is perhaps best known for her unsuccessful political run for a seat on St. John’s City Council, when she finished runner up in the race for Deputy Mayor. Even in loss, her 17% popular vote made her the most-popular trans-identified candidate in Canadian Political History.
McCreath successfully played a key role in helping to break down the gender binary barriers, in international sports, when she penned and helped implement a gender-inclusion policy that allowed for the sanctioning of trans athletes into their own sex category, at the 2009 World Outgames in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she participated.
McCreath continues to work on an ongoing battle with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, to get them to provide funding for trans-related procedures that are deemed medically-necessary by Newfoundland doctors.
McCreath has provided policy advice to a variety of government and non-profit organizations. She has appeared on mainstream provincial and national media outlets, to speak on issues including transsexualism,information access and privacy, human rights, athletics, health care, assisted reproduction, sexual health, air transport safety, and government transparency & accountability. She has also delivered university lectures on these topics, as well as been featured as a keynote speaker at major conferences. She has also been profiled numerously in biographical television and newspaper programs.McCreath lays claim to being one of the few openly-trans individuals in the world, to have founded and managed, a legally-registered non-profit gay-pride organization, in a major city. She has also launched several grassroots trans-specific advocacy and support groups.McCreath is a frequent newspaper journalist and video and text blogger.

Keeping A Low Profile - for now!
Yes blog readers, I am still out here. been spending much of my free time reading books, writing my first book (more info soon), and taking extra overtime shifts. Looking forward to some big new projects in the near future, which I will get into more once the details are ready to be announced.
For those who have been asking, yes, I still plan to leave Newfoundland before year end and take my life in a completely different direction. it's no secret that I have been frustrated at the lack of career growth or opportunities that seem to always find their way to others.
But before I go, you can bet that the good bye parties will be used as a tool to raise education and awareness towards the same type of activism matters that I have been working so hard for over the past 7 years.
